6 Things To Do To Make Ohio A Better Place For Everyone, Including Immigrants

The Ohio Immigrant Alliance is a group of immigrants and citizens working together to protect the dignity and rights of all individuals who choose to make Ohio their home. We engage in activism and volunteerism that connect communities across the state, and include people currently living abroad due to our inhumane immigration laws.

Here are six things you can do right now to help make Ohio a better state.

Show up for Ohioans who were deported and want to come home, register for the “Chance To Come Home” campaign launch with the National Immigrant Justice Center and use this social media toolkit to spread the word. This national campaign is featuring three Ohioans who are a beloved part of the OHIA—Tina from Dayton, Goura from Columbus, and Ibrahima from Cincinnati. They were all ripped from their children and lives in the US during the previous administration. Get involved so they and others can come home!

Ensure Ohio’s K-12 education features the stories and voices of Ohioans of all backgrounds, support OPAWL’s “Educating For Ohio’s Future” campaign. This project is one of the most important initiatives to combat racism and build a stronger, more cohesive society.

Support the next volume of the Ohio Migration Anthology, come out to the Columbus Arts Festival on June 11 to create a poem with us, purchase a copy of Volume 1, or support Volume 2’s publication in August!

Let a detained Ohio man from Mauritania know that he has a community behind him, send I.M. a birthday card or donate to his commissary account. Our goal is to send him 100 birthday cards!

Tell Sen. Brown you are disappointed with his decision to sponsor anti-asylum legislation, email him here (Thanks to Bend The Arc: Jewish Action Ohio.)

Urge Sen. Vance to sponsor the Adoptee Citizenship Act, send a constituent letter and call him using this template. (Thanks to Adoptees For Justice and OPAWL.)

If you have something to add to this list, drop us a line! And if you want to support this work, make a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
