#ReuniteSpeaks: Connecting People W/ Experience In US Deportation System To Those Who Need Their Expertise

Sharing the wisdom of people who have been through the detention and deportation machine

“Nothing about us, without us.” People with disabilities made this phrase common in U.S. human rights parlance, and it applies to every movement that impacts people.

In #ReuniteUS, we recognize that people who have been through the US detention and deportation machine have singular insight into how the system works (and all of its dysfunctions), as well as life after deportation. They are some of the smartest, bravest, and most resilient people we know. Many are natural organizers and played leadership roles while locked inside US jails.

#ReuniteSpeaks connects people who have been through this experience with policymakers, members of the media, organizations, and potential allies who need their expertise. They are paid directly as consultants for their time and the emotional labor this requires.

Our first consultant is Saidu Sow, an Ohio man who didn’t intend to become an activist inside US immigration jails, but wound up becoming a leader anyway. Read more and contact him here.
